WHY GOOI EN STEEK?
The expression comes from childhood. It has stuck with me that my mom would refer to making a “gooi en steek” casserole.
It became a family legacy, and we all cook that way now. The objective is to combine ingredients and flavours that you love: throw them in a pot, on the weber or in the oven and chill out while the flavours mingle and create a masterpiece.
Over the years I have taught many of my friends that were terrified of their kitchens how to love cooking and make it fun. It is all about what you love to eat, throwing it together and letting the marriage of the flavours do the rest of the work. Simple as that!
WHO ARE GOOI EN STEEK?
MANDY
I have loved cooking for as long as I can remember! My childhood memories are filled with many kitchen experiments in the company of my older brother and sister. We were encouraged to be creative in the kitchen and to allow our imaginations free expression in our cooking. But not everyone is as lucky, and the thought of creating a meal can bring many people out in a cold sweat.
For the past 27 years, I have been involved in event management and sponsorship. I’ve always had a very demanding job and work-life – but still love to entertain. I just don’t believe in making cooking a mission. I like to be prepared and ready to welcome guests into my home when I entertain and certainly don’t want to be slaving away in the kitchen while guests are here.
If you want to bring a relaxed ‘rescue remedy’ feeling to your very clever dinner party, you’re in the right place! Why put yourself under pressure to create a gourmet dinner that will give you a stomach ulcer? Gooi en Steek is a left-side approach to easy cooking with great results.
FORTUNATE
My name is Fortunate Farai Gabarinocheka (Nyabadza). I am originally from Mutare, Zimbabwe. I grew up in Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe. I hold a Diploma in Financial Management; a Higher Certificate in Business Management and a Certificate in Cooking from Pick n Pay.
I started working with Mandy in April 2019. When we met, we discovered we shared a passion for cooking and creating cost effective, easy recipes and meals. I love creating solutions for working people and students. Having 4 children of my own, I believe it is important to create meals that are fun, interesting, and full of nutrition.
My goal at Gooi en Steek is to uplift and teach other people how to cook and plan their meals.
